LIVE, LOVE, LIFE

It’s been a week since the storm surge Yolanda hit the Philippines.  It’s been also a week of catching up on the news of what was happening, the before and after.  For OFWs like me, it’s been a week of workloads, but for our brethren back home, it’s been a week of grief and mourning.

I attended the anticipated mass yesterday, and I can’t help but cry in prayer for those who’ve lost lives of their loved ones, for those who are suffering, for those who are hungry, for those who are striving to live, for those who are in most need of everything.  Today, I am reminded that in this life, everything is temporary. All of us will leave our earthly possessions and that whatever we have now can be easily taken away even if it’s against our will.  I was not physically there in Tacloban during the storm, but I do feel them, the emptiness and pain in their hearts.  Every time I hear news about it, in TFC local news or CNN, it always leaves my heart teary-eyed.

In today’s gospel (Luke 21: 5-19), Jesus tells His disciples not to panic when they begin to see signs that the “end of times” was coming—wars, earthquakes, famine, plagues, signs from the sky, and persecutions. He tells them not to be terrified, but to trust and to persevere. These verses were somewhat God had written for us today.  We, Filipinos, are known to be God’s people, religious people.  We have that unwavering faith in the Lord, that even in the midst of tragedies and calamities; we can surpass everything and endure the pain.

There is nothing more we can do but to help and pray, to encourage them not to lose hope, to move on, and to let go.  To all those affected by the storm, I share this with you, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).  God loves us in mysterious ways.

I would want to believe that it is a call to us all, a call to make our life worth living, and more importantly, a call to love more. Let us live our lives significantly.  Let us share whatever we have now, or else, it will be too late.

God bless, the Philippines!
